Fort Worth IIBA Monthly Meeting - April 2017

Thursday, April 27, 2017 -
5:00pm to 7:00pm

Please mark your calendars to join us this month.

GUEST SPEAKER
Kimberly Peelman is a Senior Business Analyst at GameStop. She writes functional requirements for the GameStop point-of-sale, and is a member of the development team: a semi-agile team living in a water-fall world. Kim has a BS in Secondary Math Education, a Masters in Teacher Leadership, and is a certified Scrum Master. After 3 years of teaching, Kim transitioned to the corporate world, where she excelled at training teachers to use an online education program in the classroom. This led her to work closely with the development team to create features that WOWed their customers! Eventually, Kim became a Product Owner, where she was trained in Agile and wrote requirements for all development efforts. In her free time, Kim likes to play board games, quilt, and attend hockey and UFC events with her husband.

MEETING TOPIC
What We’ve Got Here is a Failure to Communicate

TOPIC DESCRIPTION
Developing an application is like making a movie. A great idea can turn into a blockbuster or a flop, if it’s poorly implemented. Thoroughly thought out ideas require putting yourself in the position of the user, thinking through your back-story, and imaging every possible outcome. Like story boarding a scene, your requirements map out the entire user experience so everyone on the production team knows exactly how to make a great idea come to life. In this session you will learn how to write clear and thorough requirements in a Given/When/Then format. You will receive simple tips on how to organize your documentation, and see how to use MS Paint and Word to create mockups that help you and your readers visualize the final product. The tools will help you reduce misunderstandings, ensure all user scenarios are accounted for, and confirm the business is getting the complete feature they need.
